The Sakitama Kofun Cluster |
⑤Atagoyama Kofun
With a length of approximately 55 meters, the Atagoyama Kofun is the smallest among the Sakiyama Kofun Cluster. Excavation revealed that square, double moats surrounded the mound, just as with other key-hole mounds of the Sakitama Kofun Cluster. Based upon unearthed items, it is estimated that the burial mound was built during the middle of the sixth century.
The inside of the tumulus has not yet been investigated, therefore, methods of burial, as well as burial artifacts remain unknown. Some haniwa cylinders, and figures depicting human form, as well as shields and other items were unearthed from the moats.

To the east of the Atagoyama Kofun is the Futagoyama Kofun, the largest of the Sakitama Kofun Cluster. The difference in size between the two is quite apparent when actually visiting the site.
